Cyril Christo and Marie Wilkinson
A culturally active and empathetically subversive husband and wife team deploying photography, written/spoken word and moving pictures in advocacy of indigenous cultures, endangered species, fragile habitats and eco-systems and global sustainability.

Christo and Wilkinson turn their lens to the challenges facing tribes from Ethiopia to Namibia, a reverence and richness for the role of the African Elephant interconnected with different societies and tribes, and dedication to three endangered bioregions.

"Part of our research," Christo said in an interview, "is going between the very physical and material--the sand, the mosquitoes, the drought and the cycles of everything that’s going on and then the stories that infuse a larger poetic - and the native people here still have that."

Photography books include: Lost Africa: The Eyes of Origin, Walking Thunder: In the Footsteps of the African Elephant, and In Predatory Light: In Search of Lions, Tigers and Polar Bears, They both speak with urgency, dedication and brilliance about observed realities within the African continent. They created the film: Walking Thunder: Ode to the African Elephant

The African elephant, a sacred totem for many peoples, is being killed at an accelerating rate - the loss of the African elephant population brings a sharpness, an existential symptom of our ailing world.
